I have been enchanted by art and the creative process for as long as I can remember.  For my 5th birthday my mother gave me a Walter Foster's book "How To Draw Children."   I spent hours copying  the pictures in that book.   Christmas of that year I had my nose plastered to the Sears Catalogue drooling over the “Jon Gnagy Art Studio Set” complete with tubes of oil paint, brushes, turpentine, linseed oil, charcoal, erasers, several canvas panels and his instruction book all neatly enclosed in a wooden artist case.   I wanted it like the kid in “A Christmas Story” wanted an “official Red Ryder, carbine action, two-hundred shot range model air rifle!”  When I unwrapped that painting set under the Christmas tree (complements of my Grandmother), I was in heaven!

I spent the next several years learning to paint and draw from his book.  I painted all through high school.  I painted my first public piece depicting modern dancers on the wall of my school’s gymnasium.  So, when thinking about college(surprise, surprise), all I wanted to do was go to art school. I studied painting, printmaking and photography.    I use  my photographs as inspiration and resources for my paintings and prints.

My life has taken many twists and turns since that time.  I became a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and after practicing for many years decided to pursue my dream of going to law school.  Through these different pursuits, I lost touch with my art, painting sporadically at best. I always longed for a time when I could devote myself to painting again.  My “wish” came true when I lost my job three years ago and couldn’t find another.   So, my journey as an artist began anew.  I have thrown myself into my art full time, learning to paint and learning to see again.   It has been a real blessing.

I love painting.  It really is that simple.
